Mount Pleasant

One of the Charleston area’s most desirable communities, offering a blend of coastal beauty, modern conveniences, and a rich historic backdrop.

Welcome to Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant is one of the Charleston area’s most desirable communities, offering a blend of coastal beauty, modern conveniences, and a rich historic backdrop. Established in the late 17th century, the town grew from a collection of plantations and small settlements into a vibrant community that still preserves much of its Lowcountry heritage. Landmarks like Boone Hall Plantation and the historic Old Village showcase Mount Pleasant’s deep roots and timeless charm.

Today, residents enjoy scenic marsh views, oak-shaded streets, and quick access to both downtown Charleston and the beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. Popular destinations such as Shem Creek, with its waterfront restaurants and shrimp boats, and Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, with its mix of shopping and dining, add to the town’s lively yet relaxed character.

The area is broken up into two sections: North and South of the Isle of Palms connector. MLS Area 41 encompasses the northern section, and MLS Area 42 encompasses the southern section.

South of the Isle of Palms Connector (MLS Area 42)

This is the more established part of Mount Pleasant, closer to downtown Charleston and the beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. Neighborhoods here tend to have mature landscaping, oak tree-lined streets, and a classic Lowcountry feel. Residents enjoy quick access to top dining spots, boutique shops, and well-known local landmarks. Homes vary widely, from charming older properties on large lots to newer construction and luxury waterfront estates. Some of the popular neighborhoods include Mount Pleasant’s Old Village, Hobcaw Point, I’On, The Groves, Bayview, Cooper Estates, and Oakhaven, just to name a few. The convenience and character of this section of Mount Pleasant make it one of the most sought-after places to live in the Charleston region.

North of the Isle of Palms Connector (MLS Area 41)

North Mount Pleasant offers a newer, more master-planned style of living. Development expanded here over the last two decades, resulting in modern neighborhoods with community amenities such as pools, walking trails, clubhouses, parks, and access to well-regarded golf courses. This area provides a bit more space, newer construction, and often larger neighborhood footprints. Some of the popular communities include Park West, Dunes West, Carolina Park, Rivertowne Country Club, Oyster Point, Charleston National, and Hamlin Plantation. Residents appreciate the suburban feel, excellent schools, and easy access to shopping centers like Oakland Market and Costco. Both areas are highly desirable, and choosing between the two often comes down to the type of neighborhood, Pricing, commute preferences, and the style of home a buyer is seeking.
